Plaidy HUNK vs. Plaidy FLUNK

According to the depiction in Princess of Celle...

Count Philip Konigsmarck (March 4, 1665- July 2 , 1694: Handsome, beautiful manners, a real gentleman, passionate and caring, and a warrior of merit, class and fame…

VS...

George Lewis (later GeorgeI): Ruthlessly barbaric, no stance- no poise, no charm, ill-mannered, vulgar, dim, dull, uncaring and unemotional, unkept, void of spirit and of emotion…

  1. Exactly, though Konigsmarck loses a few points for his liaison with Von Platen.

I've read elsewhere that George was a very unpopular King of England... he didn't want to live in England or learn the language.

  2. Doesn't surprise me one bit about George not wanting to learn the language- and yes, very unpopular. As for the Count..I hated him too for that liaison -but no matter how many points you take off, he still beats Georgie- boy by miles:)

  6. I just finished The Princess of Celle. What a loathsome character George Lewis was! I pitied Sophia when she had to marry him and hated how his family turned against her at the end of the book, when George nearly strangled her.

I can't say Philip was much better, however. He was so indecisive, not knowing if he wanted to stay with Sophia or flee court. His little liasion with Clara caused all their problems because that was how Clara became obsessed with him. Maybe my view of him is tainted by Plaidy's rushing through the final quarter of the novel. His character wasn't as developed as it could have been.
